Sweet marinated Shiitake mushrooms are an ideal ingredient for sushi, oriental-style salads, or as a standalone snack. They are used in Chinese or Japanese broth soups (ramen, miso, dashi). Shiitake mushrooms are the oldest cultivated mushrooms by humans, grown and valued in Asia for thousands of years. In Japan, they are known as Japanese wood fungus, and in Poland, they are associated with the name Poku or Ta-Ke. They grow on Shii trees, which is how they got their name Shiitake.
