Château Haut-Batailley is located in Pauillac in Bordeaux. It is one of the 18 castles with the status of fifth class Grand Cru Classé, awarded in the 1855 classification. The Château was formerly part of a larger Château Batailley. It was purchased in 1932 by brothers François and Marcel Borie, who in 1942 divided it into two parts to avoid succession conflicts. François took over the smaller estate, which did not include the physical castle, and named it Haut-Batailley. He expanded the estate by purchasing vineyards. It has a deep red garnet color. The nose is filled with aromas of ripe red fruits, spicy notes with a pleasant oak accent in the background. The palate is dignified and elegant. The tannin is delicate yet long and captivating. The wine pairs perfectly with aged hard cheeses, seasoned beef, and game.
