The fruits of the plant also contain carotenoids and carotenoids, which in the human digestive tract are converted into vitamin A and tocopherols that exhibit similar effects to vitamin E. Thus, sea buckthorn protects the body from atrophic and degenerative changes as well as thrombotic and spasmodic changes, among others in blood vessels and skin.
