It first originated in the eastern regions of the Mediterranean, such as Egypt, and then spread worldwide. Its seeds and leaves are used for medicinal and culinary purposes in India. It is a grain with a bitter and sharp taste, pleasant aroma, and aromatic flavor. It is recommended to add ajwain to hard-to-digest dishes, meats, starchy vegetables such as potatoes, legumes (peas, lentils, beans, mung beans, chickpeas, and others).
